Comeback

They say that there's a three second time period for someone to voice a comeback, otherwise it's just a comment. But when you have dial-up, that's impossible. So here goes:

The White Stripes are dilettantes posing as musicians.

No offence intended. :)

I hear what you're saying but I disagree.

Complexity hampers artistry when it gets in the way of the medium. The White Stripes strip their music down to beat and mealody. Using a single bass guitar in Seven Nation Army didn't hamper their creativity or the impact of the song.

Even if I agreed that they have no talent (which I don't) I would have to repudiate the "superficiality" of their knowledge. From their first album they carried a candour that is wholly reflective of their influences.

A perfect cover of Chris Isaac doesn't give you integrity, it just highlights H.I.M.'s music as meretricious bunk.

But then you didn't defend them either.

Oh don't get so bent out of shape... No matter how many big words you use I will never hear melody in a White Stripes song. Some people like them, I don't. I'm sure some people hear a cacophony when listening to Counting Crows, I don't.

I didn't defend H.I.M because I don't think they're that great. Just because Brad likes them doesn't mean I've become a groupie. I was just poking fun at how serious you are over everything... It's your dour approach to most issues that made me fall for you. But sometimes, no matter how many thesauruses you use, I just won't agree with you. Jess is always right - correct, accurate, exact, precise. :P

(Did you mean junk - not "bunk"?)
